TNT-Sponsored Mindfulness Meditation Classes At Cancer Treatment Centers
We have begun offering mindfulness meditation and mindful movement classes to patients, caregivers, and cancer care providers at the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center at Northwestern University. FAQs for the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center
Who is this class for? This class is for any cancer patient, survivor, caregiver, or medical care provider who is interested in learning and practicing mindfulness medication and mindful movement.
What is a drop-in” class? This means that you can “drop-in” as many times as you like without having to sign up in advance or attend a certain number of times.
What is the age range for this class? Because the sponsoring nonprofit organization (True North Treks) works with teens and young adult cancer survivors, anyone ≥15 years of age can attend.
What happens at each class? For the first part of the class, you will be guided through gentle movement including a walking meditation and/or mindful yoga. Instructors will give special attention to ensure all physical needs are met and that you will feel comfortable and supported regardless of your ability level. After the movement practice you will be guided through a mindfulness meditation practice. The class will close with a short dialogue where together we will discuss the practice, answer any questions, and talk about how to apply mindfulness to our daily lives.
What should I bring and wear to the class? Feel free to bring a water bottle, comfortable clothing, and a sweater or blanket as the room temperature can fluctuate with the change of seasons. Yoga mats will be provided, however, you’re more than welcome to bring your own mat.
How long is the class? The class will begin promptly at 6:00pm and end at 7:00 pm. Please arrive no later than 5:45pm so that you can get situated and are able to start on time.
What does it cost? The class is completely free and sponsored by True North Treks.
Can I bring a friend? This class is open to all cancer patients, caregivers, and health care providers. If you consider your friend to be a part of your support system, by all means bring him or her! We would love to have them join the group.
When will the class take place? This class will be offered twice a month, on Tuesday evenings. Please see the schedule below for specific dates.
Where is the class located? The class is located at the Outpatient Clinical Cancer Center on the 21st floor of the Galter Pavilion (675 N. St. Clair). Upon exiting the elevator you will see a sign that will point you to the conference room located on the northwest corner of the building.
