Class Information

Class Schedule

To register and join, click on the date of the class below

Who is this for? Young adults and their caregivers affected by cancer, and cancer care professionals.

When is it? Classes are held every 1st and 3rd Thursdays of the month. They start promptly at 7:30pm EST and finish promptly at 8:30pm EST. You might try to join a couple minutes early so that you are ready when the class starts.

Do I need to register? Yes, you will be asked to register once for any 1st Thursday classes and once for any 3rd Thursday classes. It's brief and helps us know what our numbers look like. You can even do it right before the class starts. You'll get a confirmation email with all of the necessary information. Just click on the date of the class to the right to register.

What is the format? This is a video conference-based drop-in class, which means you can come once, or as frequently as you like and join from any device that has a screen and internet connection.

Who is teaching it? Classes are taught by TNT’s amazing mindfulness guides.

Is this a support group? No, not in the traditional sense. This class will hopefully be supportive, but more about supporting and strengthening your mindfulness practice.

Do I have to turn my camera on? No, not if you don’t want to. We always like seeing everyone, but it’s totally fine if you prefer not to. Our instructors will have theirs on.

Where should I be to do this? We recommend finding a quiet, private spot in your home, apartment, or office, where you won't be interrupted, but since this is a virtual session, anywhere you can get a connection will do. Maybe there's even a nice park bench or beach?

Am I expected to talk or share? Only if you want. We ask that you stay muted during the actual meditation, and at the end during a brief inquiry if you want to un-mute yourself to share something you observed or noticed during the practice you are welcome to.

What if I have a technological problem? This is certainly possible. You might try leaving and re-joining the meeting to see if that helps, or finding a stronger internet signal in your location. Sometimes it’s just not possible to fix it, and while this is disappointing, in the spirit of this class, it might also be an opportunity to practice sitting with unpleasant events. Reach out to us afterwards to do a “tech check” with you so it’s better for the next class.

GET BACK ON TRACK!
TRUE NORTH TREKS is a national 501(c)3 nonprofit organization
whose mission is to empower young adults and caregivers affected by cancer to reclaim the lives that cancer took through "finding direction through connection." We help the people we serve get connected to powerful and unique skills, tools, experiences, and resources that can enable them to live healthier, happier and more meaningful lives. We recognize that people of all walks of life are impacted by cancer and therefore we focus on providing programming and connection opportunities for patients, survivors, their families and cancer care professionals. In addition to supporting individuals after cancer diagnosis and treatment, cancer prevention and healthy lifestyle promotion are central to our mission and focus. We also provide cancer prevention education, wellness promotion, and positive health behavior skill acquisition programming to both the general public and those at increased cancer risk.
FIND YOUR TRUE NORTH!
One of the primary ways we  fulfill our mission is by taking groups of young adult cancer survivors and caregivers on free backpacking and canoeing treks in beautiful wilderness destinations where they can connect with nature (after going through something as unnatural as cancer treatment), connect with peers who have been through something similar, and connect with themselves through training and practice in mindfulness meditation and yoga. Our programming includes immersive excursions in wilderness settings, residential retreat experiences, training in mindfulness meditation, yoga and other contemplative and reflective practices, and the provision of resources, training, outreach, advocacy, and support in both outdoor and indoor settings.
