See Yourself.
Be Yourself.
Free Yourself.
When you can see yourself, you can be yourself.
And when you can be yourself, you can free yourself.
When you can free yourself, the possibilities are limitless to becoming the fullest, most authentic, whole version of yourself imaginable. At TNT, this kind of liberation is our vision of what health and well-being looks like.
Our See-Be-Free initiative is a guiding value and commitment to TNT manifesting and self-investing in achieving greater representation of traditionally underrepresented groups in our programs and culture so our participants can see-be-free themselves in everything we do.
For some organizations this would fall under their "DEI" efforts. At TNT we like to use the word "ABIDES", which means "holding steadfast to something", or "remaining in service of", which is a great reminder for how we wish to revere this important organizational value. Also, the letters that make up this word help us remember what See-Be-Free is all about: Accessibility, Belonging, Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Safety.
We know this can take time and energy, and we are committed to engaging in this work to improve access, inclusion, and representation to nature, age-appropriate peer support, and mindful self-awareness and all of their known health benefits.

What Does ABIDE-ing Look Like?
Our See-Be-Free Initiative is a growth-oriented organizational undertaking that will show up in several ways, big, small, and everywhere in between.
Right now, it includes:
1. Re-Envisioning Our Space to make the TNT WALDEN Institute as friendly and accessible as possible for survivors living with disabilities. Next to our main house is a large, 4800 square foot utility building that was used by the previous owner. With input from people living with disabilities, architects, and interior design specialists, we are currently transforming this building into an accessible living space that will double our sleeping and bathing capacity, offer a multipurpose dining hall for large group meals and functions, and create new places for gathering, fellowship, and connection. We are calling this the DAFFODIL House as daffodils symbolize rebirth, resilience, and new beginnings. They are one of the 1st flowers to bloom at the end of winter, announcing the beginning of spring and signifying the end of cold, dark days. DAFFODIL also acknowledges our the names of our gracious supporters and their vision for this effort: Duchossois And Foglia Foundation’s Offering for Diversity and Inclusion in Life. This next phase began in October 2023 and is expected to be completed by October, 2024.

2. Creating an emotionally-captivating short film of TNT alum JulieAnn Villa to highlight her "life at the intersection" of being a longtime endurance athlete, MIT graduate, educator, member of the Latine community, 3-time cancer survivor, and person living with a physical disability. JulieAnna sadly passed away shortly after this film came out, but she was able to watch it and shared the following comments with us: "I am thrilled! I love the name. It took my breath away at capturing what I could not about where I am/was when I told my story. I just read about the "See-Be-Free" Initiative and am honored to lend my voice to this. Truly as I read more about the initiatives, I am so excited to hear about this and how it resonates with my values."
3. Building our TNT guide corps to include AYA survivors and guides of color.
We're super excited to welcome Jay Carter, Sylvia Ruiz, and Vanessa Hood to join the TNT Team as trek guides!
4. Offering an "all-Latine" trek. In 2023 we offered our first all-Latine trek on the Green River of Utah. Due to its popularity and success, we will offer this again in 2024.
This is just the beginning. We welcome and value your input, perspective, and active participation in this process!
