TNT Application Process: 4 Easy Steps
The following 4 steps need to be complete in order to be fully approved to go on a trek. The sooner you get these done, the sooner your spot is saved and you are confirmed. You will not be placed onto a trek without first having communicated with us about available spots and your specific preferences. It is always best to at least submit an application to start the process and get in the queue.
STEP 1. Complete Application Form
Click the button to submit a new application. Please be aware that for ease we have broken the application up into 5 brief pages so please click "submit" after each page. Your application is not considered complete until all 5 pages have been submitted.

STEP 2. Log Into Your Secure TNT Account And Change Your Password
After you submit your application, you will receive a confirmation email from us that contains a temporary password for you to log into your secure TNT account. Please change your password and make sure to save this information somewhere as you will use this account again to submit other forms in the application process.
STEP 3. Get Medical Approval
Cancer Survivors must have the primary medical provider who is most knowledgeable of their cancer history and current medical status complete their form, which includes the primary physician, oncologist, or oncology nurse. Your provider will have an option to complete this using our secure online form, or by completing a PDF and emailing it to us. Once we receive your medical form from your physician it will be reviewed by our Medical Director who retains final approval decisions. Depending on the number of applications being reviewed and any follow up questions, this may take several weeks, so we encourage you to make sure this is submitted right away. Note that we are unable to accommodate individuals currently receiving active cancer treatments that could put them at risk for medical complications in the outdoors. As treatments are changing and maintenance therapies are becoming more common, if you are currently still on some form of treatment and feel that your situation enables you to safely participate on a trek, please apply as we look at each person on a case-by-case basis to ensure they are able to safely participate.

For survivor/caregiver treks, we also require caregivers to submit a completed caregiver medical form however caregivers may complete it themselves without needing a medical professional to do so on their behalf. We may request the involvement of a medical provider if we have questions or concerns.
|
STEP 4. Submit Refundable Deposit
We require all applicants to put down a $350 refundable deposit (a mailed check or your credit card number) upon receiving medical approval. We will hold these deposits and will not act upon them (e.g., your credit card will not be charged or we won't deposit your check) unless we have had a conversation with you first. We do reserve the right to use this deposit if we have purchased your flight and/or turned others away and cannot recoup expenses. Last minute cancellations due to medical reasons will be considered on a case by case basis with a physician's letter.
For credit card deposits, please click button to complete a secure form. Check deposits should be made out to True North Treks and mailed to True North Treks, 2219 Colfax Street, Evanston, IL, 60201. |
What Happens After You've Been Approved?
Booking Flights. Once these four things have been received and reviewed, we will notify you of the outcome of your application. If approved, we will book your flights (usually no earlier than 75 days out from your trek) and make other travel arrangements.
Pre-Trek Orientation. Once all logistics are in place, our wilderness and mindfulness guides will reach out to arrange a phone call in order to discuss preparing for the trek (roughly 45-60 days beforehand). It’s helpful for us to know more about your past outdoor and meditation/yoga experience and also learn what gear you may (or may not) have. We’ll talk about things you can do to prepare for the trek and invite specific questions you may have. Finally, we’ll send you some pre-trek information to help you get a sense of the area and some of the activities we’ll be doing.
As you can imagine, we are processing a lot of applications and greatly appreciate your efforts to be responsive to our emails or phone calls if we have any follow up questions. If you encounter any problems or have questions, please don't hesitate to get in touch with us and we'll be happy to assist!
